Bedroom redo...

Our team leader drew a new layout of the bedroom, containing similar features, this is his work:

I was then assigned to check if the perspective work was correct, there were a couple of things i had to change:

- The wardrobe was too close to the wall in this drawing. If it all stays true to the perspective, then the wardrobe would appear incredibly flat. So it had to be removed and brought forward.

- Then I drew over the drawing and correct more things such as the doorway, the window frame and skirting board.

The Wardrobe Scene Drafts

These scenes were created using FlipBook, as i am starting to feel in this type of animation we're doing, this program is much more appropriate and helpful.

My first attempt was quite a low frame rate and i concentrated a lot on the structure of the character, hence giving him a slight 'skeleton'.

However, i actually needed to concentrate more on the movement than the character itself, as i did in the next draft. But still, more could be done to improve this rough copy.

I then smoothed out the character and added more frames to make the animation smoother too. The only way i could improve this further is by making the movement more exaggerated and cartoony as thats the style we're going for.

Designing a Wardrobe

After creating the bathroom, another member was going to take it to a 3D perspective view. Meanwhile I was assigned to making a test animation for where the character opens a wardrobe and takes out a 'dracula' style cape. So I began by designing the wardrobe, making it relatively similar to one I own:

There were a total of 3 major keyframes for the wardrobe. One where it's closed, one when its open, and one where it is missing the 'cape':

Bedroom Shading

I traced out the leader's design of the bedroom with a thicker, more dense brush. And then performed the block shading:

Here is the original:

Here is my shaded version:

However, when I had a closer look at the leader's drawing, there were actually a tone of flaws concerning the perspective of the drawing. All the objects in the room were all following different points of perspective. I have begun to try and correct this:

Character Development

When the leader presented us with a turn around of the character, we all agreed this supposed '8-11 year old girl' looked a little too masculine. Here is my traced, coloured copy:
So then we were assigned to all redesign the character's face in our style. Mine wasn't the chosen one, but we all agreed giving the character larger eyelashes helped give off a female appearance:
Using one of the other group member's idea, i was assigned to apply the facial features onto the final front view:

Back to Bathrooms

This time I was able to create a much more detailed birds eye view of the bathroom, and a front view too:

Character Tonal Practice

After tracing one of the face expressions of the group leader's character design, I tried shading it out. The leader made it clear that the style we were going for was block shading and only one shade per surface/shape, I have bent this rule slightly here, and in doing so I can see his point:

Bathroom Inspiration

I was assigned to redesigning the scenery for the Bathroom scene so I did a little research into countryside home bathrooms and landings:

I then drew out a small plan and shaded it too, although it seemed a bit 'ill equipped' to be the final design:

The Chosen Storyboard

My storyboard was not picked for our group but here is a copy of our team leader's storyboard:

My Final Storyboard

In this project we all had to present a storyboard for the Halloween poem, here is my version:
